GO SET A WATCHMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my lord. Genuinely sweating tears with emotion after discovering my favourite author is publishing a sequel to the most perfect semi-autobiographicalish southern gothic bildungsroman novel - To Kill a Mockingbird <3
Apparently Lee wrote it sixty years ago though. Just think about this: potentially one of the most perfect pieces of literature ever written has just been laying in a pile of dust for over sixty years and no one even knew about it. What the even heck (bar Lee cp and her publishers)
so all we know so far is that she began writing it prior to writing mockingbird, but naturally the allusions to her childhood captivated Lee's editor so bad he persuaded her to forget this adult scout and just explore the child jean-lewuise (southern accent)
okay so apparently Scout returns to Maycomb from NEW YORK to reconcile with Atticus and some old friends. But then emotional turmoil is provoked from discovering that her father's attitudes affect her politically and emotionally....
My predicion: I interpret her fathers 'attitudes' as prejudice - since in the book it was implied that he was both sexist and homophobic during his beautiful final speech in court when claiming 'there is not a man on this earth who hasn't looked upon a woman with desire' - through this hyperbolic declarative, he is omitting people who haven't looked upon a woman with desire; perhaps suggesting they do not constitute 'man'. such a weird word 'man' unless its just repercussions of too much repetition in head. And when scout asks why the jury is composed of men only, he discredits women but I can't remember the quote becuase haven't even read it for like six months :(:(:(
So I think this will link to 'Go Set a Watchman' becuase after marrying the most butters child in the world (Dill) poor scout will be perpetually scarred, and may perhaps find homosexual feelings, thus causing her to have an affair. Also she's a broadway star hence why they live in new york. After her alcoholic husband charles baker harris (Dill) discovers Scout's infidelity, he entraps her in an irrepressible force of abuse. One day, she manages to escape, but becuase she was acting impulsively she failed to see the flaws in her escape plan and gets caught. In retalliation for trying to escape, Dill murders Scout's brother and holds Mayella Ewell hostage. Meanwhile Calpurnia is assasinated. To avenge her brother, Scout kills Dill by inseminating his meth with poisoned milk. Feeling sentimental, nostalgic, but not remorseful, she returns home to Maycomb County, alamaba seeking solace in her Father. But upon discovering the abhorrence, she wishes she'd never come back: Living in oblivion would have been less painful than witnessing the abhorrence of the truth
okay so you know I started to loose it when I resorted to abhorrence, as I do in english essays when Im loosing hope, but that was probs the longest I've ever blogged without using it lol. NGL what I discribed just there was basically cat on a hot tin roof, breaking bad, and my life haha.
I predict the main themes will be:
Mendacity
Corruption of the Innocent
Longing for innocence
Dystopian society
Cannibalistic Intolerance
Martyrdom
Sacrifice
Feminism
Sexual Equalité
Racial Equalité
Civil Rights
PREJUDICE
ABHORRENCE
Domestic Abuse
Modernisation
cosmopolitanisation (is that even a word?)
Equality for Penguins x
